WHOA Announces Board Changes
February 21, 2000

Women Halting Online Abuse (WHOA), an organization whose mission is to create harassment-free environments, recently announced changes in its Board of Directors.

WHOA has restructured its Board of Directors to better serve the public by naming Jayne Hitchcock President and Katherine M. Griffis Executive Vice-President. As President, Hitchcock will continue to be responsible for the appointment of the Board of Directors, under the direction of the Board. She will also provide leadership on all matters relating to WHOA, work with victims, send out a weekly newsletter, update the site and work with the Board as necessary to improve the site and achieve WHOA's mission. Griffis will be responsible for the development and administration of WHOA's anti-harassment policies, and, with the consent and assistance of the membership and the Board, the development of WHOA's own policies.

In addition, the Board announced Kristie Thompson its new Director of Public Relations.

"I am very happy to accept this position," Thompson said. "As a former victim of harassment, I am dedicated to assist in the vital functions that this organization provides. I find it both an honor and privilege to be working here. My position will include providing direction to the publicity campaign necessary to get WHOA's message to the Internet environment and the world."

Thompson graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a bachelor's degree in journalism in 1995. She is a freelance writer who has written for WomenTodaymagazine.com, Suite101.com, BlackLiving.com and BuckInvestor.com. She currently lives in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

To accomplish its mission, WHOA plans to educate the Internet community about online harassment, empower victims of harassment and formulate voluntary policies that systems' administrators can adopt in order to create harassment-free environments. WHOA's web site is http://www.haltabuse.org.
