Changes to WHOA Board of Directors

Cynthia Armistead is now our Webmistress and will be responsible for maintaining the site and all pages therein, as well as taking care of Safe Site and Web Partner requests and everything else to do with the site.

We've added a new Internet Safety Advocate to replace Cynthia - Mariyam Akmal.

Mariyam "Mari" Akmal is a victim of offline stalking, where she found that although she went to the police and FBI for help, they couldn't - or wouldn't - help. She came on board as an Internet Safety Advocate in early 2001 from "a desire to help others avoid (if possible) this feeling of being victimized twice - first by the perpetrators of the crimes, then again by a legal system which appears to value the rights of the criminals over the victims."

This put her on the path to learn as much as she could to help victims, online and off. With a degree in aeronautical science with an area of concentration in computer science, she's been a programmer/analyst for over 15 years, is a Microsoft Certified Professional Systems Engineer and is working on her MCSD (Microsoft Certified Solution Developer).
